Questions owners ask before they call
How do your fees work?
Every matter starts with a written quote. Formation and contract reviews are usually a fixed fee, sales are quoted stage by stage, and disputes are budgeted stage by stage. The quote says what isn't included, such as filing fees.
What is outside general counsel?
A standing arrangement for a monthly fee agreed in writing: one partner who knows your company, answers your calls and reviews routine contracts without a new quote each time.
What happens at the first meeting?
We ask about the company, the owners and what you're trying to do. Then we tell you what we'd do, what it would cost and how long it would take. If we're not the right firm, we'll say so.
Do you work outside Kansas City?
Our partners are admitted in Missouri and Kansas, and we work for companies on both sides of State Line Road. For matters elsewhere, we work with local counsel.
How fast can you turn around a contract?
Most reviews come back within three working days. If you have a deadline, tell us when you call; we'll say honestly whether we can meet it.
Why do you ask who else is involved?
Before we take a matter, we check that we don't already represent anyone on the other side. It's a professional rule, and it protects you.
What should we have ready for the first meeting?
Whatever you have: formation papers, the contract in question, the letter of intent, the emails. If you have nothing on paper yet, that's often the best time to come.
